1861-1865:North and South American civil war.We cannot say that, not all northerners were against slavery and vice versa for southerners.


South was dependent on tobacco, cotton rice, big plantation to run the system. They needed slaves.

Whole of the south had two major cities:

Baltimore the capital of Maryland.

Charlston in South Caroline. In between small villiges.


North East: Middle colonies and New England.

South: aristocratic heritage

New England: Puritan heritage. 


Puritan New England and aristocratic southern colonies. Pennsylvania wanted to be passive.

New Orleans until Louisiana was French, Florida was Spanish.


British defeated French, as a result catholisizm was illegal. French language was illegal too. Many French left. They went to France or to Caribbean, Haiti, French  Guiana or to Arcadia.

If French lost, why is French spoken in Canada Quebec?

New England made an offer to French people. If Quebec rebels against the British, it can be the state of the union. You can be the 14th state in 1780. This was the offer. King insisted on the Sugar Act though southerners had sugar plantations. New jersey had to buy sugar from England. 

On the book covers there was a Stample Act money which was 5 Pence. If you sell and buy a property, it costs you 5 pence. King needed money, that is why this system was applied. Life became more expensive, and people got angry.

Each houshold had to station a soldier, and feed him. This Quartering Act. We defeated Frenchmen, saved you from Indians, and now you should house a soldier.

None of the colonies was represented in the UK. Reason for this: They are not full subjects. They are colonists.  


The Boston Massacre in 1770: People rebelled against the troops stationed there. 5 Bostoners died.  Bostoners started the fire, and British soldiers deffended themselves.


1773: Tea had to be imported from from the UK. and tax was added. Tea couldn`t be produced.A group of 30 to 130 mean disguised into Indian clothes boarded three English vessels and over the course of 3 hours, dumped all 342 chests of tea into the water. This is called Boston Tea Party. Britain declared that Harbour of Boston was closed.


1774: Continental Congress in Pennsylvania.( In terms of political debates, Pennsylvania was the head).

Continentals: Patriots or rebels. 

Royalists:Loyal 

Rbels are minutemen. They are ready to fight within a minute. 

Lexington: A little village around Boston. Minutemen, Patriots were waiting for British troop.

Prussian military virtue: Building of guards. Your are not allowed to leave your line. If you leave your line, it means you are a coward. You should be shot.

On teh way to Boston from Lexington, 200 British soldiers were killed by snipers.

1777: Battle of Saratoga: On the Hudson River. Saratoga is in the valley. You cannot escape east and west.  France supplied the ammunation of the army. Benjamin Franklin persuaded Frenchmen to help in Paris.


New York was split. It is called the Empire State. New York had British flag even after the Treaty of Paris.
